Critical Minerals Panel: Capital, Control and the Critical Minerals Trade
Cutting through years of hype and headline risk, this panel takes a ground-level look at where the critical minerals race actually stands in 2026.
Is the Investment Case Still Intact for Battery Metals?
– Whether EV adoption curves are still the right framework for thinking about transition metal demand, or if AI energy infrastructure (data centres, grid storage) is now the more compelling demand driver
– How junior and mid-cap listed companies can leverage the current market to build new projects
– Whether the narrative around “friend-shoring” and domestic supply chains has translated into actual capital deployment or just political rhetoric
Geopolitics as a Market Force
– China’s dominance in processing and refining; is the West’s response realistic or is it decades too late?
– How Indonesia’s nickel export restrictions changed the way traders think about jurisdiction risk overnight. What about the upcoming focus on aluminium in Indonesia?
– The role of the US, Australian, and European critical minerals strategies in actually shifting where projects get funded
Where is the Capital Going?
– The shift from generalist equity investors toward strategic capital; offtake agreements, royalty financing, and government-backed funding vehicles
– Whether the major miners (BHP, Rio, Glencore) hoovering up M&A targets is good or bad for the broader investment ecosystem
– What a realistic path to production looks like for a listed junior today and whether public markets are the right vehicle for that journey at all

Artem launched ACG Acquisition Company as a SPAC on the London Stock Exchange in 2022 with a strategy to consolidate the critical metals industry. The company completed the first transaction in Türkiye in 2024, acquiring producing Copper / Gold Gediktepe mine and was renamed ACG Metals Ltd. ACG’s near term goal is to build a 200-300 ktpa copper producer via a series of roll-up transactions.
Artem has previously designed and implemented a similar roll-up strategy in aluminium, having led several high-profile transactions that created UC Rusal, which he listed in Hong Kong in 2010 at a pre-money valuation of over $20 billion.
Artem’s former roles include the CEO of Chaarat Gold, CEO of En+ Group, head of strategy and Board director of UC Rusal. He also served as an independent non-executive director at Norilsk Nickel and as Chairman of International Aluminium Institute and started his career as a strategy consultant with Monitor Group in Boston and London.
Previously, Vinit has around two decades of industry experience and has held leadership roles in the global metals and minerals industry where he led commodities trading and structured strategic investments for large international firms.
A strong advocate for responsible and conflict-free supply chains, Vinit is deeply passionate about advancing circularity in metals and minerals. He has been a frequent speaker at critical minerals and recycling forums and served for three years on the Product Advisory Committee (Aluminium) of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX).
Vinit is an engineering graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), holds an MBA, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) as well as a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certified by GARP, USA.
